Key Stuck In The Ignition Lock – What To Do?

Try to slightly jiggle the key in the ignition instead of pulling it out hard! One amazing trick is using both hands! one hand will use the index finger to press in the lock cylinder ring, while the other hand jiggle with the key and move the key back and forth to gently rock it out of the lock.

Use Ice On The Key

If you have ice you can try applying it to the top of the key aiming to cool of the metal blade. Since the key is made out of metal, the key can contract and may give you enough room to slide the key out. Make sure you wrap up ice in a paper towel to keep water from dripping and going into your ignition lock. Avoid using coolant spray because that could do more damage than good.

You May Need A Lubricant

If all this still doesn't work, you may need to use some type of lubricant to help ease it out. A dry lubricant such as a graphite pen or liquid lubricant like WD-40 may be all it takes. Be careful when using any type of lubricant spray because you don’t want too much. Add just enough so you can use the jiggling method above until the key stuck in the ignition lock is able to slide out.
